Family-Friendly Cleanup Event Scheduled in Bountiful - Volunteers Needed May 18th

Bountiful residents have a unique opportunity to contribute to their community's well-being by participating in a local cleanup event scheduled for Saturday, May 18th. Spearheaded by City Council members Kate Bradshaw and Richard Higginson, the initiative focuses on beautifying the area around the iconic Bountiful "B" and the adjacent Stone Creek. This family-friendly event encourages community members of all ages to lend a hand.

Volunteers are only asked to bring work gloves; all other materials, including a dump trailer and garbage bags, will be provided. Participants will also enjoy complimentary donuts and water as a token of appreciation for their efforts. Those interested in making a difference in their community can find more information or volunteer by contacting Kate Bradshaw at [email protected] or by calling 801-599-9017.

Woods Cross High Bids Farewell to Graduating Seniors with 'High School Musical' Finale

The Woods Cross High School Theater Department is nearing the final curtain call of its spirited production of "High School Musical." After captivating audiences with energetic performances, the 4th period cast has just one show remaining. Tonightโ€™s performance marks a significant moment as the graduating seniors of the theater department will grace the stage one last time. Their final performance is expected to be both nostalgic and exhilarating for students, faculty, and community members alike. The shows have sparked considerable excitement on social media, with hashtags like #theREALwildcats and #wxtheaterslays highlighting the cast's passion and dedication.

4.3 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Northern Utah, Centered Near Thatcher

A 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Thatcher in Box Elder County, Utah, early Sunday evening. The event occurred at around 5:30 p.m. and was confirmed by the University of Utah Seismograph Stations. The earthquake's epicenter was identified approximately 10 miles southwest of Thatcher. No further details regarding damages or aftershocks were immediately available at the time of the report.

โšฝ๏ธ Farmington Boys Soccer Heads to Playoffs After Stellar Season

Farmington High Schoolโ€™s boys soccer team secured the Region 1 championship after a dominant season. The Phoenix displayed formidable skills both offensively and defensively, managing to clinch at least a share of the title with two games still left in the league. Their consistent performance includes an 11-1 overall record leading into May, with impressive stats like the least number of goals allowed in their class statewide.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jaxon Beynon has been key to Farmingtonโ€™s success, contributing to several shutouts, supported by strong defensive teamwork. Josh Foster led the offense with notable goals and assists, alongside his teammates. This championship marks a significant achievement for Farmington, which only opened its doors in 2018.

The team now looks forward to the state playoffs, starting May 10, with hopes of continuing their success on their home field in the second round, aiming for the finals later this month.

Weekly Expert Tip:

Medicare Beware: Avoid Unsolicited Offers for Medical Supplies

This edition of our Medicare Beware series tackles a common deceptive practice: unsolicited calls offering medical devices or supplies "covered by Medicare." These calls can be misleading and may result in unexpected expenses.

๐Ÿ”‘ Key Points to Consider:

- Medicare Does Not Call with Offers: If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from Medicare, offering to send you a medical brace or any device that Medicare will supposedly pay for, be cautious. Medicare will never call to offer equipment directly.

- Doctor's Approval is Required: Medicare coverage for medical devices and supplies requires a doctor's prescription or approval. Without this, even if you receive the item, Medicare may not cover it, leaving you responsible for the cost.

- Beware of Agreeing Over the Phone: Agreeing to receive medical supplies from an unsolicited caller can lead to denial of coverage by Medicare if the proper approvals are not in place. This could leave you stuck with unexpected bills.

Stay Protected โ€“ Verify First:

-Before accepting any medical supplies or services offered over the phone, hang up and consult with your doctor. If an item is necessary, your doctor can prescribe it and guide you through the proper Medicare-approved channels to obtain it.

-Spread the Word:

Itโ€™s important to share this information with your parents, grandparents, and any loved ones who may be particularly vulnerable to such scams. Educating them on these practices can help prevent financial and emotional stress.

๐Ÿ‘‰ John is dedicated to helping you navigate Medicare safely and effectively, ensuring you make informed decisions without falling prey to scams. Contact John with any questions.
