South Davis Rec Center Trades Guest Passes for Food Donations in Holiday Promo
The South Davis Recreation Center is spreading holiday cheer with its “December Deal Days” promotion, running from Monday to Friday, December 8th through 12th. Community members are encouraged to participate by donating three or more cans of non-perishable food. In return, each participant will receive two free guest passes to the recreation center.
This seasonal initiative aims to support local food banks while giving residents an opportunity to enjoy the center’s amenities. There is a limit of two guest passes per person, and all donations must be made during the promotional dates.

Bountiful Father Faces Charges After Intervening in Child’s Surgery Plans
A 45-year-old Bountiful man is facing charges after taking his 5-year-old child—despite lacking custody—in an apparent attempt to stop a scheduled medical procedure.
Benjamin Despain has been charged with custodial interference, a Class B misdemeanor, according to court documents. Authorities say the incident involved Despain removing the child from a custodial home without legal authority, leading to concerns for the child’s welfare and prompting legal action.
In addition to the criminal charge, a protective order was filed against Despain earlier this week. The case remains under investigation.

Holiday Magic Rises at Grand America with Giant Gingerbread House
At the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City, a massive gingerbread house—13 feet wide and 12 feet tall—welcomes guests with sweet holiday cheer. Created by Executive Pastry Chef Xavier Baudinet, the edible display includes thousands of gingerbread pieces, macarons, and gumballs.
Baudinet, who grew up in a French bakery, sees the project as both art and family tribute. Built over three months, each year’s design is dedicated to his grandchildren. While visitors admire the festive masterpiece, Baudinet’s favorite part is the joy it brings—though he avoids seeing it taken down in January.

🏀 Farmington Girls Basketball Tops Bonneville with Strong Start
Farmington claimed a 52-37 victory over Bonneville, powered by a dominant first quarter that set the tone for the game. The Phoenix surged ahead early, outscoring the Lakers 17-7 in the opening frame and never looked back.
Olive Wayland led Farmington’s offense with 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Teammate Brooklyn Romney also contributed from beyond the arc, adding eight points and two threes of her own.
Bonneville’s Baya Jimenez put up a strong individual performance with 17 points, hitting three shots from deep. The Lakers mounted a late push with an 18-point fourth quarter, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
