๐Ÿงฉ Bountifulโ€™s Own World-Class Speed Puzzler

Meet Kyle Kossin, a Bountiful native whoโ€™s quickly become one of the fastest jigsaw puzzlers in the nation โ€” and even the world!

Kyle recently returned from Spain, where he competed in the World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship. Not only did he represent Team USA as head of the U.S. Jigsaw Puzzle Association, but he also commentated one of the rounds and competed with his teammate, Hannah, as the first-ever sponsored pairs team. Together, they raced under the banner of Cobble Hill Puzzles, who are even running a fun contest where fans can guess solve times for a chance to win gift cards (plus, you can use discount code STREAMTEAM25 for 25% off puzzles through the end of the year!).

From Viola to Virtual Puzzles

Kyleโ€™s story is as unique as his puzzle skills. Born in Salt Lake City and raised in Davis County, he grew up excelling in music, academics, and technology. A Bountiful High grad with a 4.0 GPA and an IB diploma, he went on to major in Computer Science at the University of Utah and now works as a software engineer in education tech. Along the way, he played viola professionally at weddings and events โ€” but puzzles always held a special place in his heart.

In 2022, after watching a YouTube video about competitive puzzling, Kyle decided to give speed puzzling a try. He timed himself on a puzzle the very next day and was instantly hooked. Fast-forward three years, and heโ€™s now completed more than 1,200 puzzles โ€” nearly 600,000 pieces โ€” and has competed at championships across the U.S. and abroad.

Big Achievements on the Global Stage

  • ๐Ÿฅ‡ Fastest male puzzler in the USA

  • ๐ŸŒ Competed in Spain three years in a row, finishing as high as 5th in teams and top-70 worldwide in solo

  • ๐ŸŽ™ Served as Team USA leader and commentator in the 2025 World Championship

  • ๐Ÿ’ป Streams puzzles on Twitch, where heโ€™s completed nearly 700 puzzles live, raised over $1,400 for Primary Childrenโ€™s Hospital, and built a welcoming global puzzling community

Bringing Speed Puzzling Home to Bountiful

Kyle doesnโ€™t just compete โ€” heโ€™s passionate about growing the puzzling community locally. He co-founded the Utah Jigsaw Puzzle Association (utahjigsaw.org) and, just this past August, hosted the first-ever speed puzzling mini-tournament at the South Davis Rec Center. More local events are already in the works, including another tournament likely coming this November.

Up next, Kyle will compete in the Utah State Championship in Lindon on October 11, before heading to California, Minnesota, and Nationals in Atlanta.

Follow his journey on Instagram at @kylko@kindofajigdeal, or on Twitch at twitch.tv/kylko.

Scouts from Troop 109 Selling Idaho Potatoes for Holiday Fundraiser

Two dedicated members of Boy Scout Troop 109 are kicking off a flavorful holiday fundraiser, offering boxes of fresh, ready-to-cook Idaho potatoes just in time for the fall season. Supporters can choose between hearty Russet or vibrant red potatoesโ€”both perfect for baking, roasting, or mashing at holiday meals.

These baker-sized potatoes come straight from Idaho and will be delivered at the end of October, making them a timely addition to any festive menu. All proceeds from the sales will go toward supporting the Scouts' activities and adventures throughout the year.

Community members interested in lending their supportโ€”and enjoying a delicious side dish in the processโ€”are encouraged to reach out to place an order.

Six Starbucks Stores Close in Utah Amid Nationwide Restructuring

Several Starbucks stores across Utah have permanently closed their doors as part of a larger nationwide restructuring by the coffee giant. The closures are part of the companyโ€™s โ€œBack to Starbucksโ€ initiative, aimed at refining operations and reinforcing long-term growth.

Over the weekend, Starbucks eliminated approximately 1% of its North American locations and cut nearly 1,000 jobs. Despite the closures, the company is still in expansion mode, with projections indicating it will operate nearly 18,300 stores across the U.S. and Canada by the end of its fiscal year.

In Utah, six stores have been confirmed closed:

  • Clearfield โ€“ 306 East 650 North

  • Logan โ€“ 724 East 1400 North

  • Provo โ€“ 1158 North University Avenue

  • Riverton โ€“ 3728 West 13400 South

  • South Jordan โ€“ 1121 West South Jordan Parkway

  • West Jordan โ€“ 1577 West 9000 South

The closures are part of a broader reduction that leaves Starbucks with 434 fewer locations in North America compared to the end of June. Company leadership cited financial challenges and outdated store formats as primary reasons behind the decision.

๐Ÿˆ Redhawks Rally: Bountiful Blows Past Viewmont with 42-14 Comeback Win

Bountiful overcame an early deficit to defeat Viewmont 42-14 in a Region 6 matchup. After trailing in the first quarter, the Redhawks responded with 35 straight points, powered by big plays from Siaki Fekitoa and quarterback Hudson Malmrose. Viewmont scored twice early but was shut down for the remainder of the game by a dominant Bountiful defense.
