Community Pushes for Turnaround at 500 South Railroad Crossing
Frequent delays at the railroad tracks on 500 South in Woods Cross and West Bountiful are causing mounting frustration for residents. With trains often halting traffic for 25 minutes or more, drivers have no way to turn around, leaving them stuck and anxious—especially during time-sensitive errands or emergencies.
The lack of a turnaround not only disrupts daily commutes but also raises serious concerns about emergency response times. As train traffic increases due to regional industrial growth, the delays have become more frequent and severe.
Community members are calling for the construction of a dedicated turnaround to improve traffic flow and provide an escape route during long train stops. A petition is now circulating, urging local and state leaders to take action and address what many see as a growing safety issue. 👉 Learn more
Worker Seriously Injured in Woods Cross Commercial Fire Involving Hazardous Materials
Emergency crews from the South Davis Metro Fire Service Area responded to reports of a grass fire in Woods Cross shortly after 10 a.m., only to discover a more serious situation upon arrival. Instead of a vegetation fire, crews found a commercial structure that had caught fire and was already extinguished by bystanders using fire extinguishers.
Inside the business, responders located a worker suffering from severe burns covering a significant portion of their body. The fire had involved hazardous materials, prompting immediate decontamination efforts on-site. The injured individual was then transported in serious condition to the University of Utah Burn Center for specialized care.
Fire investigators, along with the department's hazmat team, remain on the scene working to determine the cause of the blaze. No further details have been released at this time.

Part-Time Crossing Guard Positions Open in Farmington
Farmington City is currently seeking to fill two part-time crossing guard positions to help ensure the safety of schoolchildren during peak travel hours. The first position is located at Canyon Creek, near 650 West and 500 South, while the second will serve the area around Farmington Elementary.
These roles are ideal for individuals with flexible schedules, especially parents with young children. Not only are the responsibilities straightforward—helping students cross the street safely before and after school—but the job also offers a chance to engage with the community in a meaningful way. In addition to the rewarding nature of the work, the city offers appealing perks for those who take on the role.
Farmington officials encourage anyone interested in a low-stress, enjoyable job that makes a difference to consider applying.

Bountiful Cheer Team Kicks Off Clothing Drive for Fundraising Effort
The Bountiful Cheer Team is rallying community support through a clothing drive fundraiser, offering an easy way for residents to donate and make a difference. Team members are collecting gently used clothing and household textiles, with all donations going to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah.
The drive not only helps fund mentorship programs across the state but also benefits the cheer team by contributing to their fundraising efforts for uniforms, travel, and competition expenses. Residents who wish to donate can simply send a direct message to the team’s Instagram page to schedule a clothing pickup, making it a convenient way to contribute from home.
This local effort combines community spirit, youth mentorship, and support for student athletics — all through the simple act of clearing out your closet.
