Hormone Harmony: Free Wellness Talk at South Davis Rec Center This Wednesday

Residents are invited to a free health and wellness lecture, Hormone Harmony, taking place this Wednesday, September 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the South Davis Recreation Center. The event will be led by Lisa Wise, owner of Step-by-Step Wellness, and is open to the public with no registration required.

The session is designed to help attendees better understand the complex relationship between food and hormones in todayโ€™s fast-paced world. Through a practical and accessible approach, Wise aims to equip participants with knowledge to support their hormonal health and overall well-being.

With a focus on building a sustainable lifestyle through informed choices, this lecture offers an opportunity to gain valuable insights into how the body functions and what it needs to thriveโ€”one step at a time.

Public Invited to Meeting on Proposed Homeless Services Campus Near North Salt Lake

Residents of North Salt Lake are invited to attend an upcoming public information meeting on Tuesday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m., where details about a proposed homeless services campus will be shared. The facility is planned for a location near 2550 North and 2200 West in Salt Lake City, near the border of North Salt Lake.

The meeting aims to provide residents with a comprehensive overview of the project, including potential impacts on surrounding communities. The Stateโ€™s Homeless Coordinator will lead the presentation, outlining the purpose and scope of the facility, as well as addressing public concerns.

City officials are encouraging local citizens to participate in the meeting, which will include a Q&A session with state staff. The event is intended to foster transparency and provide an opportunity for community input as planning continues.

FBI Arrests Two After Bomb Found Under News Van in Salt Lake City

Two men have been arrested in Utah after an explosive device was discovered beneath a FOX 13 News vehicle in Salt Lake City, prompting a federal investigation and evacuations in Magna.

The device, found on September 12, had been ignited but failed to detonate. It was located under a parked news van near an occupied building, posing what officials called a serious public safety threat. The FBI took over the case due to the potential for mass harm.

Investigators traced the device to a home in Magna near 2700 South and 8500 West, where suspects Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31, were living. A search of the home uncovered two hoax weapons of mass destruction, bomb-making materials, firearms, illegal drugs, and electronics believed to contain evidence. Nearby homes were temporarily evacuated during the operation.

The suspects face charges including Threat of Terrorism, Possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Possession of Explosive Devices. Both are being held in the Salt Lake County Jail.

Utah Ranks Near Bottom in New Report on U.S. Sports States

Utah has been ranked among the lowest states in the country for sports, landing at 41st in a new WalletHub report evaluating sports culture across the U.S. The ranking considered factors like the number of professional and college teams, ticket prices, fan engagement, and facilities.

While Utah is home to the NBAโ€™s Utah Jazz and several college programs, the state lacks major league teams in sports like football, baseball, and hockeyโ€”hurting its overall score. Low attendance figures and limited market size also contributed to the poor showing.

Top-ranking states like California and New York benefit from a deep pool of professional franchises and strong fan traditions. In contrast, Utahโ€™s smaller sports scene, despite passionate local support, didnโ€™t measure up by national standards.

Simple Treasures Boutique celebrated its 25th anniversary with a week full of shopping, community, and gratitude at the brand-new Western Sports Park. The event brought together more than 250 vendors, showcasing a wide variety of unique finds and local treasures.

Organizers say the milestone wouldnโ€™t have been possible without the loyal support of their customers, the hard work of their dedicated staff, and the commitment of vendors who prepare all year for the show.

โ€œItโ€™s always amazing to see the community come together, but this week was extra special,โ€ they shared. โ€œWe truly have the best customers!โ€

With another successful event in the books, Simple Treasures looks forward to welcoming the community back for future shows.

๐Ÿงธ Be the Light with Lilyโ€™s Birthday Stuffed Animal Drive

Last year, Lily celebrated her birthday by organizing a stuffed animal drive for Intermountain Healthโ€™s Cancer Centerโ€”collecting 140 stuffed animals to comfort kids whose parents are battling cancer. ๐Ÿ’›

This year, sheโ€™s back with an even bigger goal: 200 stuffed animals by September 30th! Each donation, whether new or gently loved (small to medium-sized), helps bring hope and comfort to kids and teens during an unimaginably hard time.

There are lots of ways to get involved:

  • Drop donations off at Lilyโ€™s house

  • Order online and ship directly to her

  • Meet up for a hand-off

  • Or contribute funds so she can purchase animals on your behalf

As Lily shared, โ€œLearn to light a candle in the darkest moments of someoneโ€™s life. Be the light that helps others see.โ€ ๐ŸŒŸ
