Overcrowded Davis County Animal Shelter to Be Replaced, Tax Increase Proposed
Davis County plans a $15 million new animal shelter to handle the rising number of stray and surrendered pets. Officials propose a $1.5 million property tax increase to cover costs and hire more staff. The current facility is outdated and overcrowded, necessitating the new 32,000-square-foot building. The shelter, serving all county cities, has achieved no-kill status but faces resource limitations.

S'mores Nachos: Gooey Campfire Delight
Ingredients:
- 1 sleeve graham crackers, broken into segments
- 16 snack-size Hershey's milk chocolate bars, broken into pieces
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 2 cups miniature marshmallows
- 14 full-size marshmallows
Directions:
1. Prepare the Fire: Create a bed of charcoal in a barbecue grill or campfire pit and let it burn down to a nice bed of coals.
2. Assemble the Nachos: Spray an 8x8 disposable baking pan with nonstick spray. Layer half the graham crackers, miniature marshmallows, and chocolate pieces in the pan. Repeat with the remaining ingredients. Top with the full-size marshmallows.
3. Cook: Cover the pan with foil sprayed with nonstick spray and place it on the grill or campfire grate. Cook for 8-10 minutes, turning halfway through. Watch closely to prevent burning.
4. Serve: Remove the foil and enjoy the melted, delicious S'mores Nachos while warm!
