Happening Today: North Salt Lake Food Pantry Opens Early for Holidays
Local residents are reminded that the Mobile Food Pantry is happening today, Tuesday, December 16th, instead of its usual later date, due to the upcoming holidays. Time: 5:00 - 6:00. Location: Moda Shorline Apt. (882 Foxboro Dr. NSL)
This early distribution ensures that local families have access to essential food items ahead of the holiday season. The event is made possible through the combined efforts of the North Salt Lake Youth City Council (YCC) and the Bountiful Food Pantry, along with the generous support of community donors who help keep the pantry stocked and running.
All residents in need are encouraged to stop by and take advantage of this important service today.

Bountifulโs Main Street to Welcome Lucky Slice Pizza in 2026
Lucky Slice Pizza is bringing its signature slices to Bountifulโs Main Street in Spring 2026. The new location, set to open across from Blacksmith Ice Cream, has already stirred excitement among locals eager for a closer option to enjoy the popular pizzeria.
The company is now hiring team members to train in its creatively dubbed โDough-Jo,โ with applications open online. While most responses have been enthusiastic, some shared mixed reviews of past visits. Still, anticipation is high as residents watch the space take shape and count down to opening day.

$7M 'Home Alone' House Replica Comes to Life in St. George
A St. George, Utah, construction company has built a $7 million replica of the Home Alone house as part of the 2025 Parade of Homes. Modeled after the original Chicago-style home, the 14,000-square-foot property combines film-accurate design with luxury features like a pickleball court and veranda. Set to be completed in January, "McCallister Manor" will host events for fans to explore movie-inspired details and is already generating buzz with themed marketing around town.

Utah Mammoth Prospects Set to Shine at World Junior Hockey Championship
Several Utah Mammoth prospects will compete in the 2025 World Junior Championship in Ottawa. Top names include defenseman Aron Kiviharju and forward Emil Hemming for Finland, and forward Tij Iginla for Canada. Jett Luchanko was a final cut from Team Canada but remains a key future prospect. The tournament begins December 26 and offers a glimpse into Utahโs future NHL talent

LIGHT AND JOY
1. Why This Time of Year Benefits From โAdded Lightโ
Winter brings shorter daylight hours which affects pets and their routines.
Less outdoor time can reduce stimulation and confidence, especially for puppies and shy dogs.
Indoor days can feel repetitive which may lead to boredom or increased vocalizing.
Adding small โlight momentsโ throughout the week keeps pets engaged and emotionally supported.
2. Introduce the Idea of โEight Days of Delightโ
(A playful nod to Hanukkah without referencing religion directly.)
Suggest creating eight simple daily enrichment ideas or activities.
Each day can feature something quick and easy such as:
A new scent to explore.
A frozen treat puzzle.
A short training game.
A hide and seek treat activity.
A cat wand toy session.
A texture or chewing activity.
Emphasize that small daily rituals help pets feel grounded and happy.
Encourage pet parents to make these daily moments bright, fun, and consistent.
3. How Enrichment Adds Joy and Builds Confidence
Mental stimulation supports emotional health during darker, slower months.
Novelty activities mimic the โlightnessโ or โsparkโ pets miss when daylight is limited.
Enrichment encourages independent exploration for shy or hesitant pets.
These activities help reduce winter blues for both pets and owners by building a routine of connection.
4. Seasonal Safety and Visibility Note
Sunset arrives earlier which affects evening walking routines.
Pets benefit from reflective or lighted gear for safer nighttime outings.
Encouraging short evening walks can also add a โlight momentโ to the ownerโs day.
1. Freeze Dried Treats
Ideal for โEight Days of Delightโ enrichment games.
Easy to hide for scent work or training bursts.
High value rewards that bring excitement and daily joy.
2. Pumpkin or Golden Blend for Bright, Cheerful Toppl Fillings
Create visually bright enrichment that fits the โlightโ theme.
Adds nutrients and moisture to meals.
Works for freezing, layering, or quick treat snacks.
3. LED or Reflective Gear for Evening Walks
Supports safe nighttime movement during early sunsets.
Encourages maintaining outdoor activity even in low light.
Helps dogs feel more confident during evening strolls.
