Payson Resident Charged with Multiple Counts of Child Sexual Abuse in Fruit Heights
A 75-year-old man from Payson, Alan Brower Bassett, has been arrested and charged with the sexual abuse of several young girls in Fruit Heights from 1977 to 1989. The charges follow a thorough investigation by the Davis County Sheriff's Office, which began in 2020. Bassett, who admitted to the allegations, faces nine counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child. A civil lawsuit from 2019 also detailed similar accusations. Authorities are calling for any additional victims to come forward.

Farmington Homeowners File Lawsuit After Costly Sewer Flood
Farmington residents, still dealing with the aftermath of a severe sewer flood last November, have filed a notice to sue the Central Davis Sewer District. The flood, caused by Cherry Hill Water Park's discharge of its 150,000-gallon lazy river, overwhelmed the neighborhood's sewer system, flooding 11 homes with contaminated water. Despite initial cleanup payments from the sewer district, the residents face substantial unreimbursed expenses, ranging from $30,000 to $115,000 per household. After months of unsuccessful negotiations with the sewer district and Cherry Hill, the residents are pursuing legal action to recover their costs.

Community-Backed Teen Living Center to Open in Layton This Fall
The Teen Living Center in Layton is nearing completion, set to open before the new school year. This facility aims to support homeless teens, offering resources to ensure they graduate high school and succeed in life. The center provides a safe place to sleep, access to hygiene facilities, and spaces for studying and doing laundry. Funded by private donations and grants, the center features individual rooms, a kitchen, and a pantry stocked with essentials. Community support has been overwhelming, with donations flooding in. Operated by Switchpoint Community Resource Center, the center requires residents to attend school and participate in work or extracurricular activities.

Medicare Beware Tip of the Week: Protect Yourself from Unsolicited Calls
One of the most common scams targeting Medicare beneficiaries involves unsolicited phone calls. Scammers may call you, pretending to be from Medicare, and ask for personal information such as your Medicare Number. Itโs crucial to remember that Medicare will never call you uninvited to ask for personal details.
Key Points:
- Hang Up Immediately: If you receive a call from someone claiming to be from Medicare and asking for your Medicare Number or other personal information, hang up right away.
- Do Not Share Personal Information: Never provide your Medicare Number, Social Security number, or any other personal information over the phone to unsolicited callers.
- Verify the Caller: If youโre unsure about the legitimacy of a call, contact Medicare directly at 1-800-MEDICARE to verify the information.
Stay Informed and Safe:
Protecting your personal information helps prevent fraud and keeps your Medicare benefits secure. If you suspect a scam or need assistance, contact John Miller for guidance and support.
