Wasatch Front Smoke Worsens After Lightning Ignites Multiple Fires

On September 11, fires ignited by lightning spread along the ridgeline between Davis and Morgan Counties, worsening air quality in the Wasatch Front. The Rudd Creek Fire in Farmington Canyon grew to four acres, prompting a response from ground crews and aerial support. High winds hampered helicopter operations, and additional firefighters were called in. The fire was expected to be fully contained by Wednesday evening.

Algae Bloom at Pineview: Boating and Fishing Open, Swimming Discouraged

An algae bloom at Pineview Reservoir has spread to all areas of the lake. Visitors are warned to avoid swimming, waterskiing, and boating in scum-affected areas, and to keep children and pets away from the water. Boating and fishing remain open, but anglers should clean fish carefully. For more information, consult the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.

Volunteers Across Utah Mark 9/11 Through Acts of Kindness

Volunteers across Utah commemorated the anniversary of 9/11 by participating in the National Day of Service and Remembrance. Individuals, including many youth from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, engaged in various community service activities such as cleaning parks, assembling school supplies, and making blankets for those in need. These efforts aimed to honor the victims of the 2001 attacks through acts of kindness. The service projects, organized by schools, churches, and local groups, spanned the state, fostering a spirit of unity and compassion.
